ParaScale Founder Outlines Next Generation Cloud Storage Characteristics

ParaScale Founder and CTO Cameron Bahar asserts advanced private cloud storage provides a new architecture

Storage Pavillion at Cloud Expo

Over the past year cloud storage has emerged from an over-hyped technology to more definable with use cases to demonstrate its value. But, the industry is still grappling with the concept that cloud storage doesn’t have to be public, multi-tenant clouds.

Most agree that data is growing faster than Moore’s Law. Existing storage solutions are failing to keep up. At scale they experience performance issues, management complexities, and are expensive. Next generation private cloud storage solutions are architected to address enterprises’ exploding data problems.

ParaScale Founder and CTO Cameron Bahar asserts advanced private cloud storage provides a new architecture for “machine generated” content like log files, RFID scan data, video surveillance, and genomics to ease scalability, management and analysis.

“Next generation private cloud storage is about providing a secure, reliable and compliant IT infrastructure and management of blended cloud resources,” said Bahar. “With large complex data sets IT needs to ensure high availability and recovery with easy, flexible access. The next generation of private cloud storage must meet these enterprise-class requirements with parallel performance so enterprises can scale performance and capacity with no bottlenecks.”

Bahar also cites an important paradigm shift for cloud storage -- bringing processing to the data. With extremely large data sets it is far more efficient to perform specialized application services on the data locally. “The next generation eliminates specialized storage networks, it’s about specialized storage services running directly on storage nodes,” stated Bahar.
